John The Violinist

Q; what made the violin your instrument of choice?

A: I always liked the way the violin looked. I always wanted to play a stringed instrument. It was honestly one of the easiest instruments to carry at five.

Q: What do you like most about doing song covers?

A: I love taking songs and being able to improv. I like being able to express myself on the beat. I can not sing so I allow my violin to do it for me.

Q: Do you play by reading sheet music or just by hearing it out?

A:  I grew up reading sheet music and playing by ear. I always enjoyed playing by ear. I do not like feeling trapped in a box. Playing by ear was just so much more natural for me

Q: What do you like about working with other musicians like yourself, that have a similar passion?

A: No greater feeling. It’s like a hidden gem. Nowadays everything is electronic, so when I find fellow musicians it’s always special.

Q: Have you ever tried to play any other instrument? If so, what was it? If not, why not?

A:  I love playing with other stringed instruments. They complement each other very well. Only recently did I look into collaborating with non stringed instruments. And honestly I love it. It brings a whole other sound.

Q: What do you think musicians need in the industry?

A:  Foundation. Being able to stay committed to yourself over anything. The industry will eat you up and spit you out. It is important to know your value.

Q: Have you thought about creating beats with the violin?

A: I have done a lot of beats with violin. I’ve been told to do more. We will see what the future holds.

Q: What do you like to do during your free time?

A: I love spending time with family and friends. I feel it is important to take mental breaks. It can be a lot! Family and friends are great to have to help you unwind. Always remember to make time for yourself too!
